The Skills Development Fund is launching a new training initiative to assist businesses across Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic. Public community and technical colleges, Workforce Development Boards and TEEX (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service) can assist businesses who want to train their workforce. The Skills Development Fund pays for the training.
The Office of Employer Initiatives – Skills Development Fund Outreach and Project Development Team works with businesses and training providers to support application development and submission. The Skills Development Fund and Self-Sufficiency Fund Grants Team provides grant management support. A business, consortium of businesses, or trade union identifies a training need, and then partners with a public community or technical college to fill its specific needs. Businesses work with college partners to submit proposals, develop curricula and conduct training. The Skills Development Fund pays for the training, the college administers the grant, and businesses create new jobs and improve the skills of their current workers.
TWC accepts project proposal submissions throughout the year with each grant typically lasting 12 months.
TWC provides access to a team of highly skilled professionals who provide technical assistance, at no charge, to help streamline the development of projects and proposals. Our team is available to work directly with employers, colleges, Workforce Development Boards and economic development partners throughout the life of the project to ensure employers are getting the training their workers need.

As a Texas employer, you are the focus of the Skills Development Fund. You provide two things — a desire to collaborate with the other partners involved with the project and the commitment to see the project through to completion.
To be considered for a Skills Development Fund grant, the private business, business consortium or trade union must:
Grants for a single business may be limited to $500,000. Tuition, curriculum development, instructor fees and training materials can be included, however, trainee wages, drug testing and certain travel cost and equipment purchases cannot be covered. Contract typically are for 12 months.

In addition to identifying your training needs and the number of employees to be trained, you must provide information about your business. The specific items required from participating employers are identified in the Private Partner Information form below, which is a required component of a complete proposal submission.
